Gates (Washington Irving)

Our Gates Child Care Center first opened its doors in 1993 and moved to its current location in 2008. The center is not only spacious and open, but enjoys multiple outdoor spaces and playgrounds as well. The large outdoor space makes spending summers at this location exciting. Our Gates center is particularly unique because in addition to child care, we have our elder care at this facility as well! Children can walk down the hall to visit with the grandmas and grandpas and we often incorporate intergenerational activities into our schedule. Gates is located at the Former Washington Irving Elementary School.

For children within the Gates-Chili School District, Generations offers a free Universal Pre-K Program.

A Word From Our Director:

I have worked for Generations for 21 years. I went to college to become an elementary teacher and I fell in love with Early Care and Education. With all the research on infant brain development and how children start to learn at such an early age, it is an exciting time to work in the field of early education. Generations provides a great environment for young children to learn and grow.

At Washington Irving, a previous Elementary School, the classroom settings are ideal for early education. There is also a full gym and a lot of outdoor space. An added bonus to this location is that there is a Social Adult Day for the elderly. The children enjoy having the “grandma’s and grandpa’s around. They interact with each other even though they have their own space. Intergenerational activities are done on a daily basis. The children love the extra attention and the seniors love to interact with the children. It is a win-win situation for all. Please come and experience our unique intergenerational program located on the west side of Rochester.
